An Honest God

I was reading in Titus chapter 1 today, and a little statement jumped out at me…

Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the sake of the faith of God's elect and their knowledge of the truth, which accords with godliness, in hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began and at the proper time manifested in his word through the preaching with which I have been entrusted by the command of God our Savior; (1:1-3 ESV)

Did you catch that? God, “who never lies.” What an amazing thought! You can trust that God will always be honest with you. You never have to wonder if He’s keeping something from you, or holding something back. It also means that you can trust whatever He has promised in His word. He will not go back on what He has promised!

In today’s world, it is very difficult to find people who will do what they say they will do. Honesty is a rare thing. Isn’t it wonderful that we can completely trust that God will be honest with us? He will never deceive or let us down.

A God Who Cares

I love reading the Psalms. They have this raw, unfiltered quality about them that just resonates with my soul. If you study the Psalms closely, you’ll quickly realize that those who trusted in God and followed didn’t always live comfortable lives. Trouble came their way. Disappointments happened. They suffered loss.

Too often we think that if we follow God then all of our problems will cease. That is not the case. Jesus did not promise a life free of burden or troubles. However He did promise an abundant lifethat is above what we can imagine.

“I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” — John 10:10

Even though life can be nearly unbearable, God promises to help love who trust in Him to live victoriously through life’s difficult moments. Psalm 147 gives us some insight into the nature of God and how he feels about us.

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. — Psalm 147:3

How comforting is that? God actually cares about our hurts, but He actually does more than that… He actively does something about them! He heals our broken souls and bandages all of our wounds. Some people will try to tell you that God is impersonal and doesn’t care about what goes on in our lives, but this verse should encourage you to believe the opposite.

God Cares About You

If you’re hurting, or if you’re facing an impossible situation today, God wants you to know that He cares. The details of your life matter to Him. Don’t listen to the voices that tell you that He doesn’t care about your life, or that He has more important things to worry about. Bring your fears, hurts, illnesses, wounds, addictions, etc. to God and let Him heal you. You shouldn’t have to face these things alone.

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. — 1 Peter 5:7

God is a healer of brokeness. He is a healer of wounds. Trust God to help you through the difficulties that life can bring. He cares about you deeply.

It's Not About the Resources

Lately, as I've studied the Bible, I've been led over and over to passages that talk about God's unlimited power. God tells us many times that nothing is too hard for Him.

This is important for us to remember as we walk through life. God is going to call us to do things that we can't do on our own. For our perspective, it will be impossible, but that shouldn't stop us from following God's call.

When He calls you to do something, don't look at the lack of resources that might prevent you from following that path. Let God handle that. He wants us to be obedient to Him, and He will handle the resources.

In Mark 11, Jesus gives us glimpse into the kind of faith He wants us to have in Him:

“Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. (22-24 ESV)

God wants us to follow Him with complete abandon. If you have truly received a promise and a calling from Him, He will make sure that His purposes are accomplished. All you need to do is obey and watch the saving power of the Lord in action.
